Business Management (ABE)
Business Management courses from ABE provide an excellent broad-based grounding in all aspects of business. It will enable students to learn skills needed to work in any management function or to run their own business. It also:
  • Leads to an internationally recognised professional qualification. Students who successfully complete the ABE examination can use the designatory letters AMABE or MABE after their name., which in turn increases a students marketability.
  • Qualifies students for exemption from many examinations of specialist Professional Association. Students gain partial exemption without loss of time from exams of Professional Associations for: Accountancy (ACCA, CIMA, or CAT), Banking (CIB), etc.
  • Offers a low cost route to a Bachelors Degree in BA(Hons) Business Studies or an MBA or MSC
Students can complete the ABE Diploma or Advanced Diploma and enter a degree course at Year 2 or 3. The ABE course can be completed more quickly and at a much lower cost than Years 1 & 2 of a degree.

The ABE course is divided into 3 parts: Certificate, Diploma and the Advanced Diploma. Students can take any part of the ABE course without needing to take the others and receive a qualification for each part they pass.

Examinations are held twice a year for all parts of the ABE and courses start in:
  • January, April, July and September
Full time students are normally advised to take 4/5 subjects per course / examination sitting
Progression

Central Greenwich College has established a progression agreement with Middlesex University, www.mdx.ac.uk, whereby students who complete an ABE or other QCA recognised Diploma or Advanced Diploma are eligible to gain direct entry into the second or third year of a BA(Hons)/ BSC (Hons) in a relevant field.

Students can apply for entry into many similar courses at other UK universities with ABE.
Certificate
This is the level for students who are new to the subject no prior experience is required as the course provides a wide ranging foundation for further studies.

Content:
All four subjects must be passed:
  • Introduction to Business
  • Introduction to Business Communication
  • Introduction to Accounting
  • Introduction to Quantitative Methods
Entry Requirements:
  • British Council - Intermediate Certificate in English/Upper Advanced Certificate in English
  • LCCI - English for Business (EFB) 1st or 2nd level
  • Pitman/City and Guilds - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/English for Business and Communication

Diploma part 1
The Diploma is designed for students who have some experience or basic qualifications in the field, but who are looking to develop an understanding of the subject further for academic or professional advancement.

Content:
The Diploma is divided into two sections. In part 1, all four subjects must be passed:
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Financial Accounting
  • Economic Principles and their Application to Business
  • Quantitative Methods for Business and Management
Diploma part 2
In part 2 there are three compulsory subjects:
  • Human Resource Management
  • Marketing Policy , Planning and Communication
  • Management in Action
Plus two options from:
  • Systems Analysis and Design
  • Managerial Accounting
  • Principles of Business Law
  • Concepts and Principles of Islamic Economics
Entry Requirements:
  • ABE Certificate
  • Two "A" Level passes plus four GCSE passes at Grade A, B or C, two of which must be English and Maths
  • Overseas qualifications which may be accepted by the Registrar as being equivalent to the above
  • ABE also welcomes applications from candidates without formal qualifications who have been in appropriate employment for at least two years. A reference letter from employer(s) must accompany such applications
Advanced Diploma
The Advanced Diploma is designed for students who have had reasonable experience or other qualifications in the field, but who are looking to develop their academic or professional skills base to a managerial level.

Content:
At Advanced Diploma level there are three compulsory subjects:
  • Corporate Strategy and Planning
  • Managing in Organisations
  • International Business Case Study
Plus two from:
  • Strategic Marketing Management
  • Strategic Human Resource Management for Business Organisation
  • Corporate Finance
  • Managing the Information Resource
  • Islamic Finance
Entry Requirements:
  • ABE Diploma
  • A UK Honours Degree or Overseas equivalent
  • Other recognised qualifications of approved Overseas Institutes of Higher Education
