English with OTHM
General English
Our General English programme offers you a balance of new language input and practice with fluency, writing, reading, listening and pronunciation, using modern course books and a wide range of our resource materials. You will be expected to participate in pair work, group work and be as active as possible in the classroom.
Aims
General English courses at CGC aim to allow students to:
  • improve their reading, writing, listening & speaking skills
  • increase their English vocabulary
  • gain confidence with the English language
  • put the knowledge they gain in class to every day use
  • make steady progress through each level
Course Design
  • A course book is assigned to each level that is used every day in class. It is very important for students to buy this course book as it provides the basis of the course. A new course book is assigned each term.
  • Supplementary materials are also used to add variety and consolidate the course book- based work.
  • Teachers may set homework from time to time. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments.
  • Every week there is revision of the work done in the previous week. As we operate a continuous enrolment system, new students join the class all of the time. By revising functions, tenses and lexis, new students are not left behind. We also believe that revision and reinforcement are necessary learning tools.
  • Terms are usually ten weeks long. Every ten weeks there is a class test based on the work that has recently been covered. This test helps students monitor their own progress. Students who pass the test may move up to the next level on the Monday after the test.
