| ABOUT THE COLLEGE |
 |
The college is growing and developing in many aspects. We are in our 3rd
year of our development at the college and, as well as the existing
provision, intend to introduce new programmes leading to degree courses at
graduate and postgraduate level.
The premises are modern and can be extended in line with our growth in
numbers. City Business Centre is a dynamic business centre with a range of
premises to suit the needs of most businesses.
Academic life is heavily based on the welfare needs of the students. There
is formality when required, as in dealing with student complaints and so
on, but a friendly approach by the staff leads to the creation of a good
atmosphere for learning. Although this is somewhat difficult to quantify,
students make good progress in their subjects, as a result of trained and
qualified teachers. We try to make their time at the college interesting
for students by arranging visits and trips to different places. We have
taken students on visits to Bath and Bristol as well as Stonehenge.
A complaints procedure is in place for students who may have a grievance
either against another student or, possibly, against a member of staff. In
these instances, the academic committee will deal with the complaint and
report back to the student.
An adequate library is being developed further until we reach a target
figure of two thousand books.
Our computer lab is supplied with technically appropriate systems. There is
a modern server for the administration, and students have access only to
the stand alone machines.

| ABOUT EDUCATION IN THE UK |
 |
The quality and reputation of UK education is without parallel anywhere in
the world. Prestigious colleges in the public sector have an envious
reputation, stemming in some cases from as early as the fifteenth century.
Modern day universities, colleges and the newer Metropolitan universities
offer a complete range of courses and the private sector, where we are
located, offers an equally wide scope in which to select courses.
At Central Greenwich College we offer courses in Business, Accountancy,
Computing, IT, Travel and Tourism and English language Non EU students who
wish to study in a college in the UK will require a student visa which
allows the student to study, and to work (part time only i.e. 20 hours a
week) in any occupation.
Since April 2009, the Government has introduced a Tier 4 Points Based
System (PBS) whereby the entry scheme will be modified and simplified.
Students who complete Diploma and undergraduate or postgraduate degree
level courses of recognised British institutions will be awarded a two
years' work visa to commence or continue with their work in the UK. The
time spent on such a visa does not count, however, towards the residence
qualification for a permanent stay in the UK or for UK citizenship rights.

| ABOUT THE LIFESTYLE IN LONDON |
 |
London is the tourist and entertainment capital of the world and as the
writer Jack London stated "a man who is tired of London, is tired of life."
There is everything for everyone's taste, be it theatres, art galleries,
natural history museums, science museums, concerts and attractions. The
London Eye, The London Aquarium, The Museum of London, The Trocadero,
Leicester Square cinemas, Madame Tussaud's, The Planetarium and the Tate
Modern are among the attractions available.
If money is a problem, why not try the free attractions? Many of the
museums and galleries in London do not charge for entry and students can
visit public buildings like St Paul's, Westminster Abbey, and even some
parts of Buckingham Palace, free of charge.
The style of life in London is constantly changing – fashions change,
attractions open up, new opportunities occur, and with the coming of the
Olympics in twenty twelve, the developments of sports centres, stadiums and
recreational facilities are dramatically changing the skyline.
If you register as a student, you can take advantage of discounts for
travel on London Transport, join the International Students Club in Marble
Arch where they have excellent badminton, squash and swimming facilities,
and enjoy a membership that allows students cheaper purchases, and entry to
attractions and places of interest.

| ABOUT THE WEATHER IN LONDON |
 |
This is where I have to get realistic! This year we are experiencing a
severe bout of wintry weather, but, who knows, next Summer may be among the
best that we've had.
Obviously the British weather is subject to much fluctuation, but at least
it gives us all something to talk about. Be sure that, if you raise the
subject of the state of the weather with a stranger in London, you will
find agreement.
